The Trust that runs Goole Hospital has been recognised for going green.
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) was awarded four out of five stars at the Zero Waste Awards for reducing, reusing and recycling. It was the only trust to be awarded for its commitment to zero waste to landfill. NLaG has encouraged staff to reuse furniture and buy reusable water bottles, and has donated hospital beds and other clinical items such as dressings, to Third World countries, with any domestic waste produced by the Trust recycled, reused or sent to energy recovery.
The NHS Green agenda is a priority for the Trust’s 2021/22 goals and is investing £40.3million in green schemes across Goole, Scunthorpe and Grimsby Hospitals, including the replacement of the coal-fired boiler in Goole. Sally Yates, logistics and waste manager, said: “This a fantastic starting point on our journey to reduce waste and increase recycling. Achieving zero waste to landfill is very important as it demonstrates our commitment to making our Trust greener. I must thank my team and all the staff who have helped us get this far. We have a lot of ideas of things we would like to do in the future which will help us get that extra star.”
