FIG launch after school group to help their members

May 4, 2023

The Families in Goole (FIG) Group has launched a new After School Group to provide children in Goole with a weekly session where they can do homework, socialise and relax.

The group’s first after school session was held on Wednesday, April 22 from 4-6pm, and has been hailed as a great success by the groups committee. Speaking about the group, FIG’s chair, Kerry Kirkpatrick said: “The after school group happened due to feedback saying that an evening group would be beneficial as our original group is within many people’s working hours. “We listened, secured funding, and we delivered! Our first Wednesday group welcomed new families with toys, crafts and snacks. “We have tablets available for use, which are especially handy should children want to tackle any homework with us. We have a good range of knowledge regarding schoolwork as our treasurer is a Teaching Assistant!” The group’s weekly Friday morning meeting is still going strong and, as always, everyone is welcome to both groups, which are both held at Junction. Kerry concluded: “We're very proud of the community feel FIG has helped to create. The support of all the local schools with this venture is much appreciated too.”
