She said: “When I started volunteering at the Citizens Advice Bureau I noticed that some of the furnishings were in need of repair.
“Because the bureau is a charity the team put all the money they receive into providing better services to their users and they haven’t invested any money in the building for quite some time.”
Mrs Scargill is also the treasurer at Eastrington Village Hall and explained how the bingo event came about: “At the village hall we work in partnership with several other halls in the area to hold a bingo event every Friday. Each hall takes it in turns to host the event and fundraise for a cause of their choice.
“When it was our turn to host I suggested we fundraise for the CAB and more specifically, raise money to help them update their offices.”
The fundraiser was attended by around 100 people and raised £500 for the charity.
Alan Barker, Manager of Citizens Advice in Goole, said: “As a registered charity we welcome the support of local individuals and organisations when raising funds for the decoration of our premises and updating the office equipment.
“The office was last decorated in 2003 and the £500 raised by Caroline is a great start, but we would welcome any further donations.”
He added: “Citizens Advice Bureaus give people the knowledge and confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem. Goole Citizens Advice offers confidential, independent and impartial advice over the phone and in person for free.”
