Howden Junior School is appealing for residents to donate a book to the school to help pupils continue developing their passion for reading.
The school is asking people to purchase a book from the school’s Amazon wish list, with all books purchased via the link being delivered straight to the school and added to its growing library.
Head teacher, Lee Hill said: “Reading is at the heart of everything we do at Howden Junior School. “Back at the start of the first lockdown we won a Reading for Pleasure Award from the Society of Authors thanks to our focus on reading. Since winning the award the pupils have developed an even greater passion for reading and have been wanting to read more challenging books. “The books on our Amazon wish list this year cover a greater breadth and depth of reading to help the pupils challenge themselves and expand the range of books in our library.”
This year is the second time the school has run the appeal after generous residents donated over 100 books to the school last summer. Mr Hill added: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated a book last time, it has already really benefitted the pupils so much. We really hope people will be give generously once again to benefit the pupils for many years to come.”
