Former members of Vermuyden Cycling Club reunited for the first time in nearly 30 years this weekend to take part in a special reunion cycle ride.
More than 25 of the club’s former members returned to Goole on Sunday, July 11 for a “long overdue” catch up with their old team mates. The group met at their old meeting point in front of Gotch’s on Gladstone Terrace, which was formerly Triad Garages, and cycled to Allerthorpe Lakes near Pollington, with some of the members who no longer cycle joining the group by car.
The meeting was organised by member, Tony Grasby after he began reminiscing about his time at the club during lockdown. He explained: “The club was formed in 1976 and ran until the mid-90s. We did time-trials and club meetings every week and were a really close knit group of friends. “As all the members grew up, got married and had kids we all went our separate ways and most of us hadn’t seen each other for about 30 years. “During lockdown I was working from home and thinking about things more and started reminiscing about the club. I made a Facebook group to bring all the old members back together, share pictures and memories and it just went from there.”
