East Riding libraries have announced that Goole Library will be closed for five weeks to allow for major building works and the addition of new services on site.
It will be closed from Saturday, February 18 at 4pm until Monday, March 27 at 9:30am.
The works involve the redevelopment of the existing library in order to accommodate Goole Customer Service Centre and Opportunity Goole, part of the Goole Town Deal.
The new site will have an improved layout, the addition of two private customer interview rooms and the creation of a Contact Centre facility to answer telephone calls to the council’s main telephone line.
Opportunity Goole will be a ‘one-stop-shop’ aimed at giving everyone easier access to information about the Town Deal, local job opportunities, business support and more.
It is one of the flagship projects in the Goole Town Deal, a multi-million pound package of improvements aimed at stimulating long-term economic growth in the Goole area.
The Customer Service Centre will relocate from its existing location at the council’s Goole offices, though disruption to this will be minimal with only one day of closure planned on Friday, March 25.
In its new location, the Customer Service Centre will offer all the services that it currently provides, and operate an appointment system for all customers.
Councillor Mike Medini, portfolio holder for culture, leisure, libraries and customer services, said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this temporary closure of Goole Library, but we ask our customers to bear with us whilst we work to create a modern facility in the heart of the town, combining the library with the Customer Service Centre, together with Opportunity Goole.
“This is the first phase of our exciting plans for council facilities in the centre of Goole, and I look forward to seeing the new centre on its completion.
“I am sure it will prove popular with our customers, offering a wide range of services in one central location.
“I would very much encourage our library customers in Goole to explore the available online options so they can continue to use East Riding Libraries’ many services during the closure period.”
Although the library will be closed during these weeks, there will be a limited click and collect service available on site.
It is also available online. To join, visit: https://www.eastridinglibraries.co.uk/memberships/, and for easy step by step guides to get set up for the digital library services for eBooks, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines, visit: https://www.eastridinglibraries.co.uk/libraries-online/.
