Staff from a business in Goole have helped to raise £1,963 for a charity which provided vital support to one of their colleagues and his family.
The team of ten staff members from Elite Office Furniture UK Ltd helped to raise the impressive sum after taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Friday, September 22. The challenge was organised to raise money for The Chris Aked Foundation, a charity which provides support to the children of families dealing with cancer and other life affecting illnesses. Staff at Elite were inspired to take on the fundraiser after marketing team member, Andrew Gravil and his family were supported by the charity when his wife, Sinead, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
During her treatment, Sinead was introduced to The Chris Aked Foundation, which provides support in the way of offering respite and normality through physical and sporting activities, counselling support, and creating memory-making days for all the family to enjoy together. Earlier this year Sinead was selected out of hundreds of applicants to participate in this year’s Coppafeel Trek, raising £5,215 as she embarked on her 100km, 5-day trek. To continue Sinead’s amazing fundraising work, giving back to the charities that have helped her over the last 18 months, staff at Elite decided to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise funds for the charity which helped to support Andy and Sinead’s four children throughout her battle. After an early morning journey from their homes, the team set off from Horton in Ribblesdale at 7:07am tackling on a 24 mile hike that takes on the peaks of Pen-Y-Gent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m).
A spokesperson for Elite said: “The challenge was physically and mentally exhausting for some, while others were skipping up and down the peaks, relishing in the beauty of the challenge. Nevertheless, it was an achievement for everyone! “Thank you to everyone who offered their best wishes and support as the team embarked on this challenge, raising money for The Chris Aked Foundation. We aimed to raise £1,000 for this charity and the team were amazed to exceed this target through the generosity of their own friends, family members and colleagues, and of Elite’s suppliers and dealers. “This charity was selected due to the personal encounter of a member of Team Elite, whose family have themselves experienced the support this charity offers to children of those affected by cancer and other life-affecting illnesses.” There is still time to donate to the charity by visiting the JustGiving link: www.justgiving.com/page/elite-yorkshire-three-peaks-chrisakedfoundation For more information about The Chris Aked Foundation visit: https://www.chrisakedfoundation.co.uk/
