It was the fourth round of this season’s East Yorkshire Cross Country League at Sledmere last Sunday and there was a great turnout by the Goole Viking Striders.
Craig Barker was the first to cross the line for the club with an excellent fifth place. Hot on his heels was club mountain goat Max Price in sixth place. Liam Tupling with a strong perfromance finished as the 23rd male. Kasia Szalecka was the club’s first female to cross the line. Finishing as the 20th female overall and fourth in her age group. Julie Masterman was the next Strider finishing second in her age group and 28th female overall. Lastly, not far behind Philippa Oldridge was the club’s third female to finish. Also for the ladies, Uschi Maddison ran her first-ever cross country on Sunday, hopefully the first of many. Notable age group performances are as follows. Kris Szalecka finished 10th in his age group. Brendan Shipley finished 16th in his age group. Richard Ruston finished in the top 10 for his age group and in the same age group Martin Midgley finished 14th. Lastly, David Maddison finished sixth in his age group. Elsewhere on Sunday it was the Temple Newsam 10-mile race. There was a sole representative from the club. Mark Johns finished in the top 10 for his age group with a time of 1:25.25. Goole parkrun It was the first parkrun back after the Christmas and New Year doubles. The runners were met with gale force winds and torrential rain. It didn't deter Jonathon Harding as he was the first to cross the line for the Striders finishing first overall with a time of 18.46. Nicky Jackson wasn't far behind in fourth place with a time of 20.50. Brendan Lewis was the third Strider to finish with a time of 22.47. Kate Gardiner was the first lady Strider to finish with a time 27.09, finishing as the fourth female overall and first in her age group. Sue Hatfield was the club’s second female with a time of 28.14 and was also second in her age group. Jill Curtis was third female finishing with a time of 31.56 and was also third in her age group. Selby Parkrun Dave McKinnon notched up his first parkrun victory of 2023 at a blustery Burn Airfield. He cut through the wind like a hot knife through butter and finished in first place with a time of 16.31. Jonny McFaul was in third place with a time of 19.07. Clare Tune was the fifth female overall and first in her age group with a time of 24.31. Lastly, Simon Tupling powered down the runway with a time of 26.02. Other parkruns: James Williamson, back from a not so relaxing holiday in Tenerife, ran the Beverley Westwood parkrun and finished with a time of 25.30. Kathy Nicholson, sporting her new braids, cruised round the Westwood finishing as the second female overall with a time of 27.20. Julie Masterman ran the Sandhall parkrun and finished as the third female overall and first in her age group with a time of 25.35. Lastly, Matt Clarke ran the York parkrun and finished with a time of 35.11.
