More than £5,000 has been raised at this year’s Snaith Lavender Ball.

The charity ball is a local event which first took place twenty years ago. Since then, it has been so successful and well supported that it has raised more than £85,000 for breast cancer charities, local hospital cancer units and other related charities.

The ball continues in memory of Julie Westley, the winner of The Selby Times Volunteer of the Year 2010 (posthumous award), who worked so tirelessly each year, not only to ensure that all those attending had a fantastic evening but also that an incredible amount of money was raised for the charities so close to her heart.

This year, donations have been made to: Snaith and Rawcliffe Medical Group £1000 Breast Cancer UK £500 Her Breast Friends, Hull £650  Westfield Park Hospice, Hook £1000 Prince of Wales Hospice, Pontefract £1000 St Leonard’s Hospice, York £1000 Jacqueline Roe, practice manager at Snaith and Rawcliffe Medical Group said: “We are pleased to support this fantastic event and are delighted to receive this kind donation. We will use the money to purchase clinical equipment that will benefit our patients. Thank you to the Lavender Ball team, and to all that donated to the event - it was a great evening.”
