It's less than one month to Christmas so the countdown is well and truly on! That also means there is only a few weeks left to donate to our 2021 Toy Appeal!
This year we have teamed up with Goole’s HEY Credit Union as well as Two Rivers Community Pantry to help reach even more families in need. Last Thursday the team at the Goole Times delivered our first car load of gifts to Two Rivers Community Pantry, for the dedicated volunteers to begin sorting and wrapping ahead of the big day - but there is still plenty of time to donate and do your bit to make someone’s Christmas magical.
Goole Times senior reporter, Emily Collins said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to our amazing readers who have donated so generously. “Now that we’ve delivered our first batch of toys to the community pantry for the team to begin sorting and wrapping, we’ve got plenty of space in our Goole Times offices to continue accepting gifts. “Why not pick up an extra colouring book, teddy bear or board game during your Christmas shopping and pop it in to our office.” Not only have we teamed up with HEY Credit Union and Two Rivers Community Pantry this year, but more Goole businesses than ever before have also stepped in to act as drop off points.
The Goole branches of Tesco, Morrisons, McDonalds and Specsavers are all collecting donations and Hook Community Shop and Andrew Percy’s office are also on board. Just this week the Goole branch of TSB has also joined forces to help reach even more people. Community Ambassador for TSB, Angela Wilson explained: “Every year TSB branches across the county take part in the giving tree initiative. This year we decided to join forces with the HEY Credit Union and Goole Times to support their toy appeal. “People can pop into the branch on Pasture Road, pick a label from the tree and buy a present for that person. They can then bring their gift into store which will be passed on to the HEY Credit Union who will distribute the gifts to children and young people in our area.” Thanks to the work of HEY Credit Union and Two Rivers Community Pantry all toys donated as part of the appeal will be distributed directly to families in Goole and surrounding areas who are need of support this Christmas. Families can be referred to receive a gift from the appeal through any of the local schools, social workers, the community pantry and other avenues, with the credit union already working with hundreds of families across our area. New toys can be donated at any of the drop off points until Friday, December 10.
Senior reporter Emily Collins added: “My favourite part about working at the Goole Times is being able to highlight the amazing community spirit we have in Goole and the surrounding areas, and the toy appeal is a perfect example of how Goolies coming together can make a real difference for families in our community.”
