Eastrington Methodist Church will close its doors for the final time this weekend after 129 years of worship.
The team at the church announced on social media that the church will be closing due to no longer having enough members. A service will be held on Sunday, September 25 at 2.30pm for all those that wish to spend time in the church for the final time.
A spokesperson for the church talked of the reasons behind the closure. They said: “ Unfortunately, we no longer have enough members to fulfil the required church posts and not enough finances to maintain our elderly chapel.”
The church is aware that many people in the village and wider areas have very fond memories of its services and want to see as many people as possible in attendance to give the church the ‘send off’ it deserves. The service will be followed with the chance to chat with others on this somber occasion about their experiences of the church over tea in celebration of its longevity. The church will close its doors after over a hundred years of services this week. (15-09-318 SU)
