“It’s an exciting time for Goole” as two new drive-throughs have been given the green light at Glews Services, managing director Joseph Richardson confirmed.
The car dealership, which closed in 2019 after more than 40 years of operation, will be knocked down and replaced with a 24-hour café and restaurant and is anticipated to create around 45 jobs.
While Goole Town Councillor deputy mayor, Ross Turner claimed on the Goole Times Facebook page that the expected tenants are KFC and Starbucks, Mr Richardson couldn’t confirm or deny the assumption as the legalities haven’t been firmed up. Regardless of the potential tenants, Mr Richardson said the approval of the application which is an update on permission that was granted in 2014, is “great” for the town as it adds to the “unprecedented” level of investment seen in recent years. “It’s exciting times for Goole, especially for both sides of Junction 36 and also what’s happening in the town centre with the money announced through the Goole Town Deal”, he said. Adding: “There’s a lot going on with the new Beal Homes development, Croda, Siemens, and the town centre. It’s unprecedented with the level of activity.” A spokesperson for the town council said the announcement is “a real sign that Goole is on an upward trend”. Adding: “Given the extremely tough times that the hospitality sector has faced this is great news for the area particularly following the positive news for the Towns Deal funding.”
