A Howden teenager is representing Great Britain in the 2022 World Sailing Championships.
Archie Burton, 15, is taking part in the event in Portugal this August. Archie became the UK Under-16 Laser Champion in the ILCA 4 sailing category in Weymouth last year. He then went on to win the UK inland Under-16 championship in Rutland at the end of October. Archie was supposed to be representing Great Britain in the World Championships in Dublin last August, however due to Covid restrictions, he did not attend.
A former pupil of Hook school, he has been a member of Beaver Sailing Club since he was six-years-old. He has been sailing competitive since age 8, taking after his father, Mike who is also a keen sailor. A few years ago, the Goole Times spoke to Archie and Mike before Archie’s first National Competition. His father said he knew he Archie could one day be sailing for Great Britain. If Covid rules allow, Archie will be doing just that later on this year.
